A brief explanation of Psalm 25 for study

Complete Psalm 25 for Bible Study - Psalm 25 begins with a reference to what prayer is. Verse 1 says, "To You I lift up my soul..." So prayer is lifting up our soul, it is leaving this physical, temporal world and entering eternity in God's presence.

And, before the Holy Presence of our God, the psalmist makes his request: "Teach me... I need to learn... I need to know more of You, Lord". He also says, "I need to learn to walk together with You... So teach me to walk in Your ways, in Your paths".

And verse 14 declares the depth of this walk with the Lord. It goes like this, "The intimacy of the Lord is for those who fear Him. To them the Lord will make known His Covenant."

Only those who fear Him can enter the Lord's intimacy. But what does it mean to fear the Lord? Is it to be afraid of Him? Is it to die of fear of His power? To fear the Lord is to recognize His holiness, to know that we are before the King of the Universe. It is to take God seriously. When we do so, we begin to penetrate His intimacy. And, there, He will reveal to us all His purpose, all His covenant, all Hissecrets.

This is exactly what the apostle Paul ministers to the church at Corinth. In the 1st letter to that church, in chapter 2, verses 9 and 10, the apostle says: "Eye has never seen, ear has never heard, nor have the things which God has prepared for those who love Him penetrated the human heart. But He has revealed them to us by His spirit..."
